Progress: Week Three of my Top Fitness Workout

Today began week three of my Top Fitness Workout.  The first two weeks were done at the Introductory level–for people like me who are somewhat sedentary, over 30 [well, over 60], and slightly overweight with aches and pains!  The intro level requires only two workouts per week with a low number of repetitions of the body-weight exercises called super-sets. This allows the body more time to recover before working out again.  It was very satisfying to actually be able to DO the exercises with all reps and all circuits.  Although I haven’t lost any weight I’m definitely feeling stronger.  And, stronger is the name of the game–stronger is the WHOLE game!

One of my main reasons for embarking on this Top Fitness Workout journey is to Build Muscle and Lose Fat.   Building muscle is the key to losing weight, more specifically, it’s the key to losing FAT.  Each pound of muscle burns 50 calories a day; each pound of body fat only burns 2 calories per day!!  More muscle means a faster metabolism and revved up weight loss.  More muscle” has become my mantra, my internal battle cry.

Not only does more muscle burn more calories but it strengthens the body, especially for baby-boomers and seniors who have been losing muscle mass since they were 30, and helps us prevent damage to our bodies that can happen from falls and other mishaps. Imagine that you were walking along the sidewalk in your favorite part of town and “tripped” over an uneven place underfoot.  Having a strong back and  strong shoulders and arms can help prevent broken bones because our arms, shoulders and back were strong enough to break the fall.

I can hardly wait to see what happens to my body as I progress into four weeks of the next level, the Beginner Level!  It’s much more demanding than the Intro level, but I’m ready for it!

Betsy, it sounds like you’ve found the right program for you. I think it might work for me also! Keep up the good work!
